Investigation Underway: Bel Air Police Arrest Mother in 3-Year-Old's Death

A 3-year-old boy from Morganton, North Carolina, tragically died after suffering cardiac arrest. The boy's mother, Gloria Hughes, has been charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.

Officers from the Bel Air Police Department responded to a report of a cardiac arrest involving a child. A passing off-duty Harford County Sheriff's Deputy witnessed the heartbreaking scene and immediately called for assistance. Despite the efforts of rescuers and medical teams, the young boy, Jason Garcia, could not be revived and was pronounced dead shortly after.

Investigators believe that Hughes is the sole suspect in this tragic incident and have assured the community that there is no ongoing threat. However, they are still working to understand the motive behind the alleged murder.

Drew French Brings Championship Experience to Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles have filled their coaching vacancy with the hiring of Drew French as the team's pitching coach. French, who previously served as the Atlanta Braves bullpen coach, brings a wealth of experience and success to the role. This marks the third departure of a Braves coach to a team in the American League this offseason.

French joined the Braves organization in 2021 and played a crucial role in their World Series title win. Over his three seasons overseeing the Braves bullpen, the team posted impressive numbers, with a 3.61 ERA and a 3.77 FIP, ranking seventh and fourth best in the majors, respectively.

Prior to his time with the Braves, French worked in the Houston Astros organization from 2016 to 2020. During this period, he crossed paths with Brandon Holt and Mike Elias, current members of the Orioles' staff. In fact, French has succeeded Holt as a pitching coach on three occasions for Astros affiliates.

As the Orioles' pitching coach, French will primarily focus on enhancing the performance of the team's starting rotation. With French's appointment, the major roles on Orioles manager Brandon Hyde's coaching staff are now filled. While the team may consider adding an assistant pitching coach to replace last year's Darren Holmes, the key pieces are in place as they prepare for the upcoming season.
