Blueprint for Maryland's Future Faces Calls for Revision Over Funding Concerns

Maryland State lawmakers face pressure to scale back the Blueprint for Maryland's Future, a massive increase in education spending.

The legislation, also known as the Kirwan Plan, allocates billions of additional tax dollars into public education over the next decade. However, local government officials argue that it is straining their budgets.

County executives and the Maryland Association of Counties have called for a revision of the plan to address concerns about funding and ensure a more comprehensive cost analysis.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Maryland's economy has only exacerbated these concerns. Lawmakers have yet to determine whether they will address the financial challenges posed by the Blueprint.

Village at Blenheim Run Aims to Provide Modern, High-Quality Affordable Housing

Green Street Housing, a Maryland affordable housing developer, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Village at Blenheim Run in Havre de Grace, Maryland on Tuesday. This new construction mixed-income development aims to provide quality affordable housing to qualifying tenants in need, along with market rate units and commercial rental space.

The project is financed through a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit investment from Hudson Housing Capital and Bank of America, as well as a long-term loan from PNC and Freddie Mac and a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta.

Green Street Housing has partnered with TM Associates Development, Inc. to bring this project to fruition. The co-developers have worked on similar projects across Maryland and are proud to provide high quality, affordable housing for the residents of Blenheim Run and the Town of Havre de Grace.
