Maryland State Police Increase Patrols for Thanksgiving Weekend
The Maryland State Police have announced that they will be increasing patrols throughout the Thanksgiving weekend in anticipation of millions of Maryland residents hitting the roads. These patrols will focus on impaired, aggressive, and distracted driving, with a particular emphasis on roads with high incidents of DUI. The initiative is funded by the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration's Highway Safety Office.
One unit that will be working this weekend is the State Police Impaired Driving Reduction Effort (SPIDRE) team. This specialized unit of trained troopers is dedicated to identifying impaired drivers and reducing alcohol-related injuries and fatalities in Maryland. The initiative also involves collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and state organizations to both enforce the law and engage with the community through social media and electronic billboards.
Several specific initiatives are planned in different counties across the state. These include increased enforcement efforts on major highways such as Route 50 in Anne Arundel County, Interstates 695 and 83 in Baltimore County, Interstate 95 in Cecil and Harford counties, Route 219 and Interstate 68 in Garrett County, and Interstate 70 in Frederick County.
Aggressive enforcement operations for DUI and traffic violations will also take place on routes 301, 20, and 50 in Kent and Queen Anne's counties, and on Interstate 495 in Prince George's County. Other targeted areas include interstates 70, 68, and 81 in Washington County, routes 50 and 13 in Wicomico County, and the West Ocean City area in Worcester County.
Motorists are urged to plan for a safe drive by avoiding impaired, aggressive, and distracted driving. They should also adhere to Maryland's Move Over laws, which require motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching a vehicle displaying warning signals.

Ravens Adjust to Life Without Star Tight End Mark Andrews

Mark Andrews, the three-time Pro Bowler and star tight end for the Baltimore Ravens, is out indefinitely after sustaining an ankle injury during Thursday night's victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Head Coach John Harbaugh believes there is a slim chance that Andrews may return this season, but for now, the team will have to adapt without him. Andrews has been a key component of the Ravens' offense, contributing 45 catches, 544 yards, and a team-high six touchdown receptions this season. His absence will be felt not only as a receiver but also as a blocker.
In light of Andrews' injury, the Ravens have been exploring their options and have reportedly auditioned several tight ends. Among them is 29 year old, O.J. Howard, a former first-round pick and the 19th overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Another prospect on the list is 26 year old, former Steeler, Scotty Washington. Washington spent two seasons on the Bengals practice squad and played in one game as part of the Patriots’ team in 2022.
The team is keen on finding a capable replacement who can contribute both as a receiver and a blocker.
