Uncertainty Surrounds Future of Empty Space Next to Harford Mall

The new Shops at Harford complex in Bel Air, which was initially intended to house a grocery store, remains vacant. Rumors of an Amazon Fresh market moving in have been debunked, and speculation about a Trader Joe's store has been dismissed.

The lack of communication from the developer has left residents and business owners in the area uncertain about the future of the space. Meanwhile, the indoor Harford Mall is also facing challenges in filling its retail spaces and there are concerns that it may be converted into residential units.

The situation has raised doubts about the viability of the outdoor Shops at Harford complex.

Havre de Grace High School's Girls Soccer Team Wins First-Ever State Championship

Havre de Grace High School's girls soccer team has won the Class 1A state championship, securing the program's first-ever title.

The team's coaches, Lea Cataggio and Tara Phillips, had a mission to get the girls in shape and boost their self-confidence after a disappointing 2022 season. The team's victory in the state final against Perryville validated their efforts to build a new-look team.

The game was a battle of attrition, with both sides fighting for any advantage. The winning goal came midway through the second half when Kendall Zimmerman passed the ball to Sophie Molyneux, who tapped it past the goalkeeper to break the scoreless tie.

The victory is a historic moment for Havre de Grace High School.

Harford Tech Shocks Allegany with Upset Victory in State Final

In an unexpected turn of events, the Harford Tech Cobras defeated the favored Allegany Campers to claim their first-ever state championship in boys' soccer. The Campers had an impeccable record, having scored a school-record 112 goals and conceding only 10 throughout the season. In contrast, the Cobras had amassed 59 goals this year. However, Harford Tech managed to slay the statistical leviathan with a 2-0 victory.

Harford Tech's win is a testament to their perseverance and teamwork, as they faced numerous challenges throughout the season. Two senior starters suffered season-ending injuries before the first game, forcing coach Mike Dempsey to make adjustments to the lineup. However, the team displayed exceptional resilience, with players stepping up to fill the gaps.

The Cobras' defense played a crucial role in the victory, shutting out Allegany and denying them any goals, despite the Campers being awarded eight corner kicks. It was the only shutout Allegany experienced all season.

Coach Dempsey expressed his pride in the team's accomplishments, stating that they will always be remembered as the first group of players to bring a state championship trophy to the school.
