High School Students in Harford County Learn about the Holocaust
The John Carroll School in Harford County recently hosted its annual Lessons of the Shoah event, which aims to educate high school students from Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Harford County about the Holocaust and the importance of standing up against prejudice and hatred. The theme for this year's event was "Courage in the face of adversity." The event is a collaboration between the Catholic John Carroll School, the Baltimore Jewish Council, and the Klein Family Foundation.
The event attracted hundreds of students, who engaged in various activities focused on promoting tolerance, understanding, and respect. Students read first-hand accounts from Holocaust survivors and participated in small group workshops to discuss the causes of hatred and genocide.
The participating students acknowledged the significance of learning about the Holocaust and the need to be proactive in combating hatred and injustice. This year marked the 11th year that the John Carroll School hosted Lessons of the Shoah, with students from 17 different schools in the area attending. Through this annual event, the school aims to nurture empathy, promote understanding, and empower young people to stand against prejudice and hatred.

Harford County Implements Restrictions on New Apartments in Business Districts

County Executive Bob Cassilly of Harford County, Maryland has signed legislation that limits the construction of high and mid-rise apartments on properties zoned for general business.
The original proposal aimed to completely prohibit apartments in these areas due to issues with infrastructure. However, the legislation was amended to allow for three-story "garden apartments" in designated areas near Route 40.
Cassilly expressed concerns about the challenges of planning when apartments are allowed in business districts and highlighted the problems caused by inadequate infrastructure in some existing apartment projects.
County Executive Responds to Reports of Undocumented Immigrants Relocation
County Executive Bob Cassilly has responded to reports of possible efforts to relocate undocumented immigrants to Harford County. An unknown organization has sent unsolicited letters indicating their intent to bring up to 105 families to the Holiday Inn in Belcamp and 115 families to the Comfort Inn & Suites on Hospitality Way in Aberdeen. The accuracy of these letters is being verified by local and state officials.
If found to be true, Cassilly has pledged to utilize all available resources to
prevent it. Cassilly emphasizes that while the people of Harford County are known for their kindness and generosity, the county lacks the necessary resources, school capacity, and funding to support an influx of 220 immigrant families and their children.
He attributes their circumstance to the federal government's open border policy and New York City's sanctuary city designation. He adamantly refuses to burden the citizens of Harford County with the consequences of failed leadership in Washington D.C. and New York City.
