Leaf Burning Gone Wrong: Forest Hill Resident's Mistake Leads to Devastating Fire

A fire broke out in Forest Hill, Maryland this week when a resident was burning leaves in a fire pit. The fire quickly spread to nearby brush and eventually reached a detached garage and patio furniture.

The Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene and it took them around 20 minutes to gain control of the blaze. The resident suffered minor burns while trying to extinguish the fire.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal estimated the loss to be around $35,000.

A reminder to everyone to be aware and take all necessary precautions when burning leaves or other debris this fall!

Baltimore Orioles' GM Voted Executive of the Year

Mike Elias, the general manager of the Baltimore Orioles, has been named Major League Baseball's executive of the year. This comes after the team finished with the best record in the American League for the first time since 1997. Despite having the second-lowest payroll in the league, the Orioles won 101 games and made it to the Division Series before being swept by the eventual World Series champions.

Elias, a graduate of Yale, joined the Orioles as GM in 2018. He has been instrumental in the team's success, overseeing the drafting of key players such as All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman and rookie infielder Gunnar Henderson. The team also made strategic trades and acquisitions to strengthen its pitching staff.

In voting conducted among the 30 teams before the postseason, Elias emerged as the clear winner. Alex Anthopoulos of the Atlanta Braves finished second, followed by Mike Hazen of the Arizona Diamondbacks. This prestigious award recognizes Elias' contributions to the Orioles' turnaround and highlights his skill in building a winning team despite financial constraints.
