New KI Tablets Available for Residents Near Peach Bottom Power Station

Harford County Health Department is offering free potassium iodide (KI) tablets to individuals who live or work within 10 miles of the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in Harford County.

The tablets will be distributed at a community event scheduled for November 4th at North Harford High School from 10am - 2pm. Both adult and child doses will be made available.

KI is a salt of stable iodine that can block radioactive iodine from entering the thyroid gland. While evacuation is the primary strategy during a potential emergency event, KI tablets offer an additional way for citizens to protect their thyroid. It is important to note that iodized table salt cannot be used as a substitute for KI.

Residents who have previously received KI tablets should discard their old, expired tablets and obtain new tablets. The proper disposal method for KI tablets is throwing them away in the household trash. For more information, individuals can contact the Harford County Health Department's emergency preparedness program at 410-877-1028 or visit www.harfordcountyhealth.com.

A car and a Harford County ambulance collided in an intersection on Sunday afternoon. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported, but both the occupants of the ambulance and the car were transported for checkups as a precautionary measure.

According to Robert Royster, a public information officer from the Harford County Sheriff's Office, the ambulance had its lights and siren activated when it entered the intersection in Bel Air. However, it was hit by a Hyundai as it passed through the intersection. The impact caused the ambulance to strike a Volvo, and ultimately ended up in a ditch.

Royster mentioned that the driver of the ambulance failed to clear the intersection at Ring Factory Road before entering it. However, it was not specified whether the ambulance was responding to an emergency at the time of the incident.

Despite the collision, there were no significant injuries reported, which is fortunate considering the potentially serious consequences of such an accident. Both vehicles involved in the collision sustained damage, but the focus remains on the well-being of the individuals involved.

Battle Over Warehouse Development: Harford County Council Votes in Favor of Bill

Harford County Council Approves Warehousing Legislation Despite Residents' Concerns

In a highly anticipated decision, the Harford County Council voted in favor of passing warehousing legislation during their recent meeting. The council voted five to two in favor of the bill, with Council members Aaron Penman and Jessica Boyle-Tsottles opposing it.

The passing of this legislation follows ongoing concerns voiced by residents regarding the development of large warehouses in Perryman. The local community has been engaged in an arduous battle against these development plans for the past two years.

APG to Conduct Firing Operations from October 10-13

Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) has announced that they have firing operations scheduled for the week of October 9, 2023. These firing operations are set to take place from October 10 to 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The base has informed residents that they may experience noise in certain areas outside the installation.

During these firing operations, residents may also see military weapons, watercraft, and/or aircraft during both daytime and nighttime hours. The use of weapons may result in the visibility of flashes or light from illumination devices. However, APG officials have assured residents that these operations do not pose any hazards to the surrounding communities and are necessary to maintain the readiness of service members.

APG has a commitment to minimize any potential disruptions for individuals living near the installation. To achieve this, the base continuously monitors both the weather conditions and noise levels throughout each day.

In the event that any residents have concerns regarding the testing activities at Aberdeen Proving Ground, they are advised to contact the installation at 410-278-4091.

Baltimore Ravens in London this week to face the Tennessee Titans!

Orioles' Impressive No-Sweep Streak Ends with ALDS Loss to Rangers

The Baltimore Orioles' impressive streak of not being swept in a regular season series finally came to an end in the ALDS against the Texas Rangers. The Orioles had gone 91 straight regular-season series without being swept, a feat that is even more impressive considering their status as a 101-win team. The last time they were swept in a regular season series was in May 2022 by the Detroit Tigers.

It is worth noting that this streak predates the major-league debut of catcher Adley Rutschman, who has been a key player in the Orioles' recent successes. Rutschman has now gone 90 consecutive regular-season series without being swept, making it the second-longest "sweepless" streak to start a career in MLB history.

However, the Orioles' no-sweep streak came to an unfortunate end in the ALDS against the Rangers. The sweep was largely attributed to the team's rotation, which has been a known weakness. Despite being the top seed in the AL, the Orioles' rotation struggled in the postseason, with Kyle Bradish, Grayson Rodriguez, and Dean Kremer combining for a disappointing 14.63 ERA in the ALDS.

The Rangers, on the other hand, made significant moves to bolster their rotation by signing Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, and acquiring Jordan Montgomery and Max Scherzer. This highlights the difference in commitment from ownership and the front office between the two teams.

While there is no guarantee that a different approach would have changed the outcome, some feel the Orioles' owners and decision-makers, John Angelos and Mike Elias, are to blame for neglecting the rotation. The team's exit from the postseason could serve as a lesson for them to make the necessary changes to maximize their chances of winning a championship in the future.

Thank You for a Great 2023 Season!
